We have 2 special presentations for you in honor of Autism Awareness Month. One is from the Van Wick Family - see below:
"The Trials and Triumphs of Transition"
Buddy and Frances Van Wick have been members of ASAC for over 20 years.
They joined shortly after their youngest son, David, was diagnosed as
severely Autistic.
He is now 23 years old, works in an assisted work job and has his own
apartment. Buddy and Frances will tell us what they did to help in his
transition from being a student in the public school system, living at home, to an adult living situation and the employment option that they chose.
The Van Wicks say that "no matter what your child's age is, it is not too early to start
planning for his or her future."
Our other speaker is Morgan Beadle, a newer member of Autism
Society of Acadiana, and a parent of a child on the autism spectrum.
Morgan also is a person who is on the spectrum. She will talk about her
unique experiences as a person living with autism who then becomes a
parent. Morgan approached us with the idea of this presentation to help
other parents who may have questions on just what to do that will help
their children, just as she did when her son was first diagnosed.
2 different families - 2 unique perspectives. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a very informative presentation!
