2010 Edition of Reflections book
It's time to begin work on our 2010 edition of our "Reflections” book. The main purpose of this book is to provide a personal "thank you” to our Walk for Hope sponsors. Our first edition came out last year and was a huge success; very well received with very positive feedback.
If you want your child/adult with an autism spectrum disorder included in the 2010 edition of Reflections we need a picture and a short paragraph submitted by February 28.
Here is a checklist that may make it easier for you to gather everything we need:
1. A Color Picture of child/adult in jpeg format only & due by February 28. This means putting the picture on a CD if you do not email. Please try to get a close up of your child's face capturing their expressions, a profile is fine. If they are far off doing something, it is hard to see their expressions. We know this can be very difficult, but do your best. (Please include only the child with autism in the picture. If there are siblings in the picture we won't know which one is the child with autism, unless you have more than 1 child with autism).
2. Name of child/adult, age, age at the time of diagnosis, due by February 28.
3. Name and relationship of person submitting the photo and write-up, due by February 28.
4. Short paragraph about the child/adult, 5 to 10 sentences long, about 200 words, due by February 28. It can be about anything you want to say; however, if you choose to share a particular struggle or challenge, please end on a positive note. The book should be inspiring and uplifting. We want people to celebrate with us, not feel sorry for us.
5. Please write something specific to your child, 5 to 10 sentences long, about 200 words. We will make every effort to include as much as we can, but space will be limited. To help control cost, we will put 2 photos with write-ups on a page.
6. You will need to review the final edited version of your write-up. Please provide both your email address and phone numbers where you can be reached. Please check your emails and voice messages regularly in case we are trying to get in touch with you during our editing process. We will attempt to contact you 3 times using email and phone numbers. You must reply quickly or we may be forced to omit the photo and write up from the book.
7. Writings will be edited for space and grammar.
8. The deadline to have everything turned in is February 28th, with all writings finalized and approved by March 7.
9. We will choose a different "poem” every year to put at the end of the book. In addition to a photo and write-up or instead of those items, you can also submit a general "poem” for consideration for the book.
10. Books will be available for you to purchase and need to be pre-paid before we order. The lab we are using has been very generous, offering us a 25% discount off our first order only. The cost of the book is $37.00. To help control our cost, we will not order books unless they are pre-paid. We will send out an email offering everyone the opportunity to purchase a book on the first order when the book is complete and we are ready to place the order.
